The amazing techno-geeks at the University of Washington are at it again. My son Andrew was one of them. He graduated from UW CSE with a master's degree in computer science. His master's work focused on animation. A short animated feature was roughed out for the senior year capstone; then it was worked on by 3 dedicated CS graduate students for 3 more years, until it became "Kings". It was chosen for the Seattle International Film Festival in 2008.
That was then, this is now. The UW CSE group is rocketing into the future with face simulations. I read about this a long time ago in the New York Times, but here it is for real. I'm proud to see that it's the University of Washington pioneering the animation. They have an incredibly dedicated group there. Wow, awesome stuff!
