Lately, I've been noticing how poorly many websites & print materials are put together--especially when it comes to typography and logos. We need to leave typography & logos to the design experts.
I present two interesting examples for you.
For the one below, read it quickly and see what you come up with.
I could only read this as "Learning-free" seminars. I didn't see the "e" until the third time I read it. In the world of rapid scanning of magazines and websites, this is not a good application of typography.
This one demonstrates just how obscure logos can be. I still don't know who acquired CCI. Should I care? Not according to this website.
I have many more examples I could show you, Suffice to say, leave design to professionals who have studied these things. And don't let your webmaster start creating things willy-nilly, especially if they are only a coder by training, and have little or no design experience.
But the real issue that is far more important: How it does this make you look?
Did you convey your message? Or did you obscure it through bad type and bad design?
The smallest things can make the biggest difference.
